For this production, performed in Boston University’s largest auditorium, we explored the themes of perfection and performance through a contemporary lense. Throughout the rehearsal process, we discussed the role that technology has played in how we think about our identity, our future, and our purpose. Are we truly living, or are we performing a life lived?

In the show, the Leading Player and the ensemble manipulate the world around Pippin with artificial filters, making the dull tones vibrant and editing out the imperfections. When Pippin discovers that he doesn’t want a perfect life, the filter comes off and he finally gets to see the real world.

Originally produced in Spring 2019.
